Basic Baby and Toddler Photography

Babies and toddlers are arguably the cutest. And for parents, they want to freeze the time and capture those moments. But, how do you take the right pictures and give justice to the cuteness of your kid? Here are the ways.

You don’t really need to have any form of training, formal or non formal, to be able to do this correctly. All you need is a little creativity, a good eye and confidence in yourself.

Your indispensable tool in here is a camera. A good camera can be those with good lenses. But, if you are a little low on the budget, a simple digital camera will do. Or, you may borrow a camera if you don’t have one. There is really no need for you to buy it.

Digital cameras can be your best options since you are going to take a lot of pictures. And disappointing as it may seem, a lot of those will not be of good quality as babies and toddlers move around a lot. It is difficult to have them seated in a single place and have them smile in front of the camera. You need to delete several pictures. So, if you are using a traditional film camera, you may only consume the whole roll of film but still not have a good shot of your baby.

The angles in taking pictures will be important for their quality. Try out different positions see which ones will get the best looking pictures. Even though it can be difficult as you have to assume uncomfortable positions, it can be rewarding in the end.

Be alert, you never know when a baby will look at the camera or flash a smile. What you need to do is just to be ready to click the button in a flash.

Infants can be very uncooperative as they cannot understand what you are doing. But toddlers, especially the older ones, can be helpful. You can already instruct them to pose and look at the camera. It is more probable that you can get good quality pictures with toddlers than with infants. And for older kids who can already understand, you can give rewards in the form of candies or toys for a good behavior exhibited. This will make their picture taking experience a good one.

You may want to place these pictures in a photo album. But, if you want your efforts to really pay off, show it by displaying it in a picture frame. If you have taken a lot of good quality pictures, you can use multiple picture frames. Or to save space, you can use a hanging picture frame which you can place anywhere strategic at your home. Doing this can make it easier for you to immortalize your children as babies or toddlers.

It is fulfilling to be able to capture a baby’s innocent smile or a toddler’s smirk. And to be able to display them at home or look at them from time to time will be a good thing for the parents.
